The HOUR of AI
The Hour of AI is a global initiative led by Code.org to introduce students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence through accessible, one-hour learning experiences. Building on the success of Hour of Code—which has reached hundreds of millions of students worldwide—Hour of AI represents the next evolution of computer science education, helping students understand not just how to code, but also how intelligent systems work and how they impact their daily lives.
The initiative is supported by leading educators and researchers, including contributors to AI4K12, and backed by major technology organizations and academic institutions working to ensure that AI education is introduced early, responsibly, and equitably. As AI rapidly becomes a part of every industry, early exposure is increasingly seen as essential—not optional—for preparing the next generation.
During the 2025–2026 school year, DegenSTEAM, in partnership with Susquehanna Kids, brought Hour of AI to students across the region, reaching a wide range of learning environments, including public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, after-school programs, and community organizations. Programming included the flagship Mix & Move lesson, AI Oceans, unplugged LEGO-based machine learning activities, and AI4K12 curriculum modules, such as how computers recognize faces.
What stood out most this year was the program’s flexibility and reach. Whether in classrooms with full device access or in settings with limited technology use, the program demonstrated that meaningful, high-quality AI education can be delivered anywhere. Just as importantly, it strengthened connections among educators, community organizations, and families—helping build a more coordinated, future-ready STEAM ecosystem across the region.
DegenSTEAM is excited to continue building on this momentum and expand the program in the 2026–2027 school year.
