The “EX_____” Framework

From Vision to Action at DegenSTEAM.

DegenSTEAM’s vision is simple, bold, and deeply regional:

Once Again Driven by STEAM.

That vision reflects our belief that creativity, innovation, technology, problem-solving, and collaboration can help shape a stronger future for our region — not through isolated efforts, but through connected communities, shared opportunities, and systems designed for long-term impact.

To move that vision from idea to action, we needed a framework that could guide the everyday work of DegenSTEAM while also helping communities identify and shape the priorities that matter most to them.

That became the foundation for the EX Framework.

The framework was built around something we noticed naturally emerging in our work: many of the actions connected to meaningful STEAM engagement were “EX” words — practical, action-oriented ideas that reflected how people participate, contribute, and grow together.

The framework includes:

• Exhibit — Spark Curiosity

• Explore — Guide Discovery

• Experiment — Apply in Real Life

• Exemplify — Model the Mindset

• Extend — Grow Community Impact

• Express — Share the Culture
  

Together, these concepts help organize the goals, systems, partnerships, and experiences needed to bring a regional, partnership-based vision to life.

The EX Framework also helps ensure that community voices remain central to the process. Rather than assuming solutions for our region, the framework creates opportunities for people to share ideas, identify needs, contribute perspectives, and help shape the future together.

This work directly supports DegenSTEAM’s three focus areas:

• Our Learning — creating meaningful opportunities for exploration, creativity, and real-world discovery.

• Our Workforce — strengthening pathways, partnerships, innovation, and regional capacity.

• Our Community — building connection, shared identity, storytelling, collaboration, and long-term impact.
  

In many ways, the EX Framework serves as the bridge between DegenSTEAM’s vision and its daily work. It helps translate “Once Again, Driven by STEAM” into actionable systems, experiences, partnerships, and community engagement efforts that continue moving the region forward.

Most importantly, the framework reminds us that meaningful innovation does not happen in isolation. It happens when communities are invited to participate, collaborate, create, and shape the future together.
